Real-Time Differential GPS may be approached in several ways

Image
While you can get more accurate fixes from such a system, it requires a number of additional, time-consuming steps, after data collection. Once you know the source of the differential corrections file, you have to get it, load it onto your computer, and execute software to produce the final corrected file. Wouldn’t it be nice if the  GPS tracker  simply gave accurate positions at the time you took the data? Further, there are some applications in which there simply isn’t time to postprocess GPS fixes–bringing a ship into a narrow harbor, for one example. Well, actually there is a way to provide instantaneous, accurate fixes: Real-Time Differential GPS. Getting Corrections for GPS Measurements – Right Now! Real-Time Differential GPS (RDGPS) may be approached in several ways: • The user can set up a base station over a known point and arrange for transmission of a radio signal from the base station to roving receivers. • The user’s  GPS Tracking Device ...

GPS tracker-based positioning solutions

Image
Enhanced client-assisted GPS positioning The enhanced client-assisted GPS positioning technique is a hybrid between autonomous GPS and server-assisted GPS. This type of solution is similar to the serverassisted GPS, with the location server providing the mobile unit with a list of visible satellites on demand. However, in an enhanced client-assisted system, the mobile unit does the complete PVT calculation rather than sending pseudorange information back to the location server. This technique essentially requires the same processing power and capabilities as an autonomous  GPS solution , in addition to a communication link between the mobile unit and the location server. However, the amount of time required to complete the PVT calculation is much less than with an autonomous GPS solution, because of the satellite view information provided by the location server, and fewer exchanges with the location server are required than with a server-assisted solution. Dead reckoning ...

GIS/GPS/GSM-based system for ambulance management

Image
In terms of “integration,” GNSS services can be exploited as a building block for dedicated emergency networks. A representative example for this is the SAR service of GALILEO, which integrates the GNSS with the emergency COSPAS-SARSAT system. Other examples have been reported, such as a GIS/GPS/GSM-based system for ambulance management and emergency incident handling in the Greek prefecture of Attica. The integrated system is expected to operate in the National Center of Immediate Assistance (ETAK in Greek), which deals with emergency medical incidents by coordinating and routing ambulances to appropriate hospitals and offering medical care to patients during their transport to hospitals.  A further system, the Taiwan E-Vanguard for Emergency (EVE), provides help in rescue and first-aid work in rescue operations. EVE consists of rescuers equipped with wearable PDAs, medics with laptops plus GPS, a rescue command center controlled by leaders of rescue and medical teams, and a ...

Image
Although most GPS receivers have the same general functionality, there are a lot of differences in manufacturer and model user interfaces. In a way, it’s like sitting a computer novice in front of three PCs, one running Microsoft Windows, one running Linux, and the other a Macintosh, and then asking the volunteer to perform an identical set of tasks on each computer. Good luck! Because of the differences, you’re not going to find detailed instructions on how to use specific GPS receiver models. What you will find is information on how to use most any GPS receiver, with some kindly suggestions tossed in when it’s appropriate to consult your user guide for details. But don’t expect me to tell you what the best electronic tracking device is. Like any consumer electronics product, GPS receiver models are constantly changing and being updated. Instead of recommending that you buy a certain brand or model. In theory, your receiver needs to know its distance to at least three satellites to...
