About High Accuracy Personal Portable GPS Tracker

GPS - the Global Positioning System - is a navigation revolution. It’s a technology that pinpoints a user’s location anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, regardless of the weather. Designed by the United States’ Department of Defense for use by the military, the GPS System was made available to civilians for use in aviation, marine surveying and general outdoor/recreation markets. Today, millions of people utilize the accuracy and convenience of this amazing technology to hunt, fish, hike, fly, cruise and sail. GPS consists of a constellation of 24 satellites orbiting some 12,000 miles above the earth. These satellites transmit signals containing time and orbital data to calculate satellite position and almanac data. Meanwhile, receivers used on the ground, sea and air search the sky for the satellites. The GPS unit needs to acquire good signals from at least three satellites to determine a position on the surface of the earth. A fourth signal is required to get three-dimensional positioning
which determines elevation or altitude.

Recent innovations in tracking device have introduced ways to enhance precision, availability, and reliability in advanced receivers. These innovations address mitigation of multipath errors, receiver (antenna center) stability, and data reliability under adverse signal conditions. Adverse conditions arise from partial obstructions like canopies and light trees that make satellite signals weak, interference from other communication systems (radio and TV broadcasts, radar, communication satellites, etc.), interference from power lines and transformers, high levels of ionospheric activities that make tracking of L2 signal harder, abrupt motions of the receiver, or momentary signal interruptions like going through a short tunnel that temporarily blocks all satellites. Some of the methods used to deal with these problems are unique to specific receivers, the details of which are beyond the scope of our discussion but may be found in the manufacturers' literature.

We’ve all seen news alerts for missing senior citizens. Sometimes those have a happy outcome, and other times they don’t. I’m sure parents of kids with special needs also live with the worry that their child might wander off and get lost. The devices we’re looking at today could help folks find their missing loved ones, but they aren’t cheap or effortless to use. I’m talking about portable GPS tracking devices that can be attached to a key ring or worn on a chain. I suppose if you have a big enough issue with pets running off, they could be used on your dog’s collar. We’ve all seen commercials that feature a senior citizen who has fallen and needs help. Think of these gadgets like that help button, but they work from almost anywhere. GPS tracking devices have long been used by secret agents in the movies and in real life, but until recently, they’ve been too big and too expensive to appeal to the public.

A portable GPS system will usually guide you to your destination. The highest-rated GPS models make it especially easy to enter destinations and they give the most helpful directions. A Portable GPS system can be used in many ways, and is a great tool to own. For example, you can use a GPS tracking device in your vehicle to help you find your way while you are driving to a new location. You can also use it on a boat when you are fishing, if you are taking a long bike ride, or going on a hike. Using a GPS system, you will never get lost again.
